MOU Signing
Four First Nations - Lil̓wat7úl (Líl̓wat), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), the City of Vancouver and the Resort Municipality of Whistler sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Canadian Olympic Committee and Canadian Paralympic Committee to officially collaborate on exploring the feasibility of hosting the 2030 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in British Columbia. Collaboration Agreement
Four First Nations – Lil̓wat7úl (Líl̓wat), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) - along with the City of Vancouver and the Resort Municipality of Whistler sign an agreement with the Canadian Olympic Committee and Canadian Paralympic Committee to commit to participating in a feasibility assessment and initial concept development to bring the Games back to Canada's West Coast in 2030, while respecting the Truth and Reconciliation Call to Action 91, the Province of British Columbia’s legislation of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA), and the federal government’s United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (UNDRIP). Feasibility Phase
COC, CPC, First Nations and experts hired by the COC study the feasibility for 2030 Winter Games in BC, based on the new IOC bidding process. Learn more about the IOC's new Future Host process here.
Engagement Phase
COC-hired experts develop hosting plan for government approvals. Feasibility team engages with community members, stakeholders and all Canadians to share the initial Games Concept, and invite feedback and insights to further develop and enhance the concept and to further shape the vision and legacy of the what an Indigenous-led Games in Canada could look like. Partners review and approve proposed Games concept.
